Guilford County, a “hot bed” for “Whigs,” “Regulators” and “revolution,” was established by an act of the General Assembly in New Bern by combining parts of Rowan and Orange Counties to separate the “insurgents” and leave them in one county.Around this period Quakers open the first school in western Guilford County in the Deep River area of what is now the Deep River Friends Meeting House in High Point.Caldwell's teachings focus on law and his students include several future governors including North Carolina's Gov.
